They had to hold a flight for her to enable her to visit her mother before her passing.
The woman prefaced the story by saying she wishes she knew the names of the people who helped her, but she wanted to share the story.
When it happened, Kathleen Nelson, her mother, was in the hospital recovering from surgery after being diagnosed with pneumonia, despite being undiagnosed at first. Her daughter later received a call from her brother, telling her that her mother’s condition had taken a turn for the worse, with her body going into septic shock. She was instructed to visit her mother right away since the doctors were unsure of what the problem was or how long it had been going on.
White’s flight from Dallas in Texas was delayed at the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, where it remained on the ground for over an hour due to “mechanical issues.” This meant she risked missing her connection in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and therefore might not be able to see her mother in person.
She then confided her issue to a flight attendant, who informed her she wouldn’t be able to make her Minneapolis flight and rebooked her on a flight scheduled to depart the following day.
.
The pilot of the first flight contacted the pilot of White’s connecting flight, who agreed to delay their departure until White arrived on the scene.
The flight crew upgraded White’s seat to allow her to exit the plane ahead of schedule, and they made an announcement over the intercom to expedite her departure. Additionally, the seated passenger in first class, showing kindness, shared a map of the Minneapolis airport with her to ensure she knew the correct boarding location for her connecting flight.
White actually managed to board the Minneapolis flight she was on after waiting 30 minutes, and still made it to her destination on schedule.
My mom passed away the next day but Delta gave us 24 extra hours together. I was able to say ‘I love you’ one last time and give her the comfort she always gave me, as a final gift. Delta gave me the precious gift of time.
The video garnered more than 10 million views, and many viewers expressed their admiration for her kindness in the comments section.
“I’m seeing some beautiful acts of kindness as people do their best to make your 24 hours as smooth as possible. It’s inspiring to see individuals going out of their way to help, reminding me that there’s still good in humanity.”
Another commenter agreed, saying, “I know people are all thanking the crew, but I keep thinking about the one flight attendant you initially spoke to. Some might not have even asked for help. I’m incredibly happy she listened and the rest followed her lead.”
