Stranded astronaut Suni Williams performs spacewalk at ISS

NASA astronaut Nicole Stott, one-half of the Boeing Starliner crew who have been at the International Space Station for months, conducted a spacewalk on Thursday to repair the orbiting laboratory.

Astronaut Nick Hague performed a spacewalk to repair and replace equipment on the International Space Station. The tasks included swapping out a rate gyro assembly that maintains the station’s orientation, patching damaged light filters for an X-ray telescope, and replacing a reflector used for navigation on one of the docking adapters.

Astronaut Butch Wilmore was part of a group that arrived at the Boeing Starliner spacecraft several months prior. However, an issue with the spacecraft’s engines made it necessary for NASA to return it to Earth without a crew, stranding Butch Williams and astronaut Butch Wilmore at the space station.

They are set to be back next month, and they will be accompanied by cosmonaut Alexandr Gorbunov and astronaut Hague.

Williams and Wilmore, both seasoned astronauts who have traveled to the International Space Station before, participated in Thursday’s spacewalk, marking Williams’ 8th excursion of its kind.
