NFL coaching news: Lions OC Ben Johnson to interview for 4 jobs

.

Johnson has been one of the top coaching candidates for a third straight year, and it’s easy to see why. The Lions’ offense has consistently excelled and has finished in the league’s top five scorers for three consecutive years. This past season saw them dominate, scoring an unprecedented 564 points, setting a new franchise record with an average of 33.2 points per game.

In previous seasons, Johnson has had chances to move on to a head coaching position elsewhere, yet chose to come back to Detroit to finish what he started. However, earlier this year, Johnson expressed that he is still eager to make the move to a head coaching role in the future.

There’s an inner drive in every man to discover his true potential, to see how much he can achieve and whether he has what it takes to succeed,” Johnson said. “Yes, there’s definitely a spark within him. When the right moment will be, I’m not sure, but there’s definitely a spark there that could be ignited in the future.

Johnson and Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, who have four more interviews scheduled, will temporarily pause their interviews to accommodate the Lions’ upcoming Divisional Round preparations in the playoffs.
