Joe Gibbs reacts to Commanders’ win and Jayden Daniels’ performance

For years, when Washington’s season was going downhill at the end of each year, owner Dan Snyder would bring back legendary coach Joe Gibbs for a game out of the nation’s capital. Whether Snyder was trying to win over the fans with a brief visit or if it was just a convenient time for Gibbs to attend, his return was never a significant occasion.

.

Last summer, Gibbs had gone to games on many occasions when he had the time. On Saturday, under no circumstances would he miss the franchise’s most important game in over three decades.

On Saturday, Gibbs was in Detroit to watch his Commanders take down the Detroit Lions, 45-31, in the NFC divisional round, earning them a trip to the NFC championship game for the first time since the 1991 season. What’s more, his previous Redskins team defeated the Lions 41-10 in the NFC championship game that year.

The Washington team has achieved a perfect 4-0 record against the Lions in playoff games, and Gibbs has been a part of three of those matchups.

Gibbs was beaming with joy when the media interviewed him after the game.

We’re incredibly proud of the entire team,” Gibbs said. “It’s amazing to see them come together like this in just one year. Getting a tough road win like this is a huge confidence booster for everyone involved.

So, what was your experience like watching talented new quarterback Jayden Daniels in action?

“He can play the quarterback position very well,” Gibbs said with a large smile.

Yes, Coach Gibbs, Daniels is a really talented quarterback.

It was fantastic to have Gibbs on hand to witness the franchise’s biggest victory since they last won the Super Bowl.
