Titanium is mechanically strong, corrosion-resistant, and incredibly light. That’s why we are suckers for watches cast in the low-density metal. Back in 1970,
Citizen
became the first company to manufacture and sell a titanium watch—the X-8 Chronometer—now a serious grail for collectors.
Fifty-five years later the brand has added to that legacy with two new 43.2mm Attesa
watch
models in full Super Titanium, Citizen’s proprietary version, which is at least five times harder than stainless steel. The pair, one in a silver finish and one with a dark gray diamond-like-carbon (DLC) coating, are the first Attesa models to feature a ceramic bezel containing an interior world time register.
Powered by the brand’s F950 movement, Citizen’s flagship Eco-Drive Satellite Wave GPS mechanism, they are capable of receiving time adjustment signals anywhere in the world via Earth-orbiting satellites in as little as 3 seconds. Even without an extra-terrestrial update, the movement is accurate to plus or minus five seconds a month and each is also outfitted with Double Direct Flight. So the wearer can select the local time from 27 time zones in two steps.
Both versions feature textured gray dials with three registers, a date window between 4 and 5 o’clock, and applied indexes that lend depth. Each comes on an integrated, triple-link, Super Titanium bracelet for comfort and durability.
But wait, there’s more—the 24-hour chronograph can time events down to 1/20th of a second. A perpetual calendar complication is automatically reset at the end of each month, and accounts for leap years. So you can forget about it until Feb. 28, 2100. Both are water resistant to 100 meters, plus there’s an alarm for wake-ups or reminders. An anti-reflective coated sapphire crystal and luminous painted hands make reading all that information easy in nearly every light condition.
Since the Attesa use Citizen’s light-powered EcoDrive, they will never need a battery and can run for five years in total darkness (using saver mode.) Still the watches feature a power reserve indicator and can let you know how much light the mechanism is absorbing, even though the information won’t be relevant all that often.
Both
the silver
and
the DLC
version of the Attesa are available at
